The Origins of the Pyramids: A Historical Overview
The pyramids of Egypt were originally built as tombs for pharaohs, the kings of ancient Egypt. They existed from about 3100 BC to 30 BC. Egyptians believed their kings would become gods in the afterlife and therefore needed secure resting spots, and the steps up the pyramid from its shape symbolized the steps up to heaven. Made out of chunks of cut stone, the pyramids, specifically the Pyramid of Giza, have become one of the seven wonders of the world, still standing today and now have thousands of visitors every year.
In the past, the pyramids were explained to have been built by thousands of workers, with endless days of work, and armed with nothing but simple tools like chisels and ropes to carry the rocks up. However, people have began to suspect that maybe there was more to the creation of the pyramids then what people are simply told to believe.
The Alien Hypothesis: Origins and Beliefs
In the 20th century, researchers began to wonder if it was possible that the pyramids could have possibly been built by the ancient Egyptians.
One pivotal figure in the propagation of the alien theory is Erich von Däniken, whose 1968 book, "Chariots of the Gods?" introduced the idea that ancient aliens interacted with humans and shared their advanced knowledge. Von Däniken suggested that the technological precision of structures such as the pyramids could not have been achieved by humans alone. His theories captivated audiences, marking the beginning of a new genre that suggested an alien influence on human history.
The rocks that make up the pyramids weigh multiple tons. Even in modern-day technology, it has trouble carrying these blocks, and these limestone rocks were carried hundreds of miles to the building site of the pyramids. Furthermore, the stones in the Great Pyramid are cut almost perfectly, and it was often believed that they used only chisels to achieve this. However, when tested today, the chisels have very little effect on the limestone, even after several days. Furthermore, the Great Pyramid was said to be constructed in twenty years; however, with the even more limited technology, like pulleys, ropes, and copper saws, that the Egyptians had back then, this is pretty much seen to be impossible.
Furthermore, the Great Pyramid is almost perfectly aligned with true north, which is the direction on Earth's surface that geographically points to the North Pole. However, getting this level of precision, especially without GPS or other technologies back then, seems impossible to people. The Great Pyramid of Giza, also, was constructed with such exactitude that its base is almost perfectly level, with variations of only a few centimeters across its expansive area.
Lastly, there are many astronomical connections seen in the pyramids and other monuments in Egypt. Orion's belt is a famous line of evenly spaced stars often seen in the night sky. However, the three main Giza pyramids align very closely with this constellation, leading people to believe the Egyptians inspired the formation of the pyramids from the belt.
As a result of these factors, many people point to aliens having helped with this project because of technology that was not believed to have been accessible to the Egyptians back then.
Skepticism and Rational Explanations: Debunking the Myths
The intricate design and construction of the pyramids of Egypt have long been a topic of fascination and speculation, leading to various alien theories that attribute their creation to extraterrestrial beings. However, a deeper exploration into historical and archaeological evidence reveals that these remarkable structures may indeed be the product of human ingenuity, skilled labor, and advanced societal organization, without the necessity of extraterrestrial intervention.
First, there is clear progression in the structures built by the Egyptians. There are many other pyramids in the area that suggest experimentation and human error. Proving that the Great Pyramids may not have been a first try but a product of years and years of work and progress.
Also, archaeologists have found evidence of workers' food remains, settlements, and tools near the site of Giza, which continues to strengthen the idea of a huge workforce and human labor to build the pyramids. Ancient Egyptians also watched the skies often, taking note and learning about stars, and observing these patterns can actually help determine directions such as true North. There has been no clear evidence that non-human technology was used in the building of the pyramids; even though the construction appears incredible, it is possible.
In conclusion, while alien theories may capture the imagination, they distract from the remarkable accomplishments of ancient Egyptians. The combination of skilled labor, innovative engineering, and a deeply organized society underscores a narrative of human capability and resilience in overcoming monumental challenges, thus firmly supporting the idea that the pyramids were indeed a product of human rather than extraterrestrial creation.
